Contactless payments began on a card, but that’s no reason to stop there. With the bPay band, we’ve put a surprising number of functions on a single, wearable device.
Take the Wireless Festival as a case in point. With bPay band, we’re able to integrate ticketing, access, payments and interactions – all on a single silicon wristband. Festival-goers who register for a bPay band are able to load their ticket and top-up the credit on their band. From there, they get fast-track entry to the festival, easy payments up to £20, and access to special extras like Facebook integration. The result? A totally contactless, paperless, frictionless experience.
Predicting the future
Barclaycard is keenly interested in future payments and the potential of wearable technology. With innovations like bPay band, we’re already experimenting with wearables, while our partnership with Transport for London is just one way we’re expanding the reach and usefulness of contactless technology.
Just imagine a typical day in the near future. You leave the house, hop on the train and head to the gym. After your workout, you grab a coffee and go to the office. The money or information you need for every stage of that journey will be integrated into a single device like bPay band – from your travel card to your gym membership to the money for your coffee and lunch.
It’s a time that isn’t quite here yet, but it’s not far away. Innovations like bPay band are bringing it closer every day.
